The federal office of public health has announced the rates for 2017.
The rise of the health insurance rates will be of 4,9% for the Canton of Vaud. For the children the rise will even be of 6,6%.
The discrepancies between health insurance companies – for the same services rendered – can be high, it is worth to compare the companies.

Each insured has the right to change company for the basic health insurance and to chose one with lower rates. However, the conditions and the deadline needs to be respected.
The health insurance companies must announce their new rates until October 31st. The insured
then have the possibility to terminate their contract until November 30th. Even if your current health insurance company does not raise their rates and/or you signed up for a specific programme like limited choice of doctors and hospitals, you still will be able to cancel your contract and chose a different company.
You also can decide to remain with your current company for basic health insurance and to conclude complementary insurances with another company. You will be asked to fill out a health survey to be able to conclude a complementary insurance contract.
